Etsy Sale and Guest Blogger: Sophie from Fashion Without Borders

Good day!Well I have my dental appointment in just a few hours!!! I am feeling quite under the weather today and have a temperature - I've been told that this all may be because of this pain in the butt tooth, so I hope it's sorted later!!

Today I have a guest blogger giving us some fabulous tips on colour blocking! For those of you who are in the northern hemisphere, I hope this will be really useful :)

BUT before I introduce Sophie, I wanted to share the exciting news that I made my first Etsy sale!!!! Aprilia from Aprilia Love (a fabulous fashion blog you should check out) bought the little Gingerbread Lover brooch. Here she is:

Gingerbread Lover
I have also set up a Shh By Sadie Facebook page. Feel free to pop over and check it out!

Anyway - back to the guest post!

 1. Tell us a little bit about yourself...
Hey I’m Sophie Fredericksen. I’m the creator and writer for Fashion Without Borders. I’m currently studying to become a magazine journalist at Ohio University but I’m originally from Atlanta, Georgia. I love fashion, great food and being with friends.

2. What do you hope to achieve in the next six months?
In the next six months I hope that my blog will have grown, I hope to be able to continue doing what I love and have amazing adventures in between. If I can accomplish all that I’ll be happy.

3. How long have you been blogging? What do you love about it?
I’ve been blogging since September 2010. The thing I love most about it is getting feedback from readers. I strive to provide my readers with tips to help them master fashion and its really rewarding to hear people say that my tips have helped them.

4. What is your favourite item in your wardrobe and why?
Probably my Ralph Lauren heels because they were originally $160 and I paid only $50 (I love bargains.) Plus they have little flower carvings in the leather that give them a vintage feel.

5. What was your biggest fashion faux pas?
Probably in High School when I conformed with the masses and only wanted to wear American Eagle and Hollister. I think the biggest mistake you can make in fashion is not being true to yourself. Besides there is nothing original about only wearing shirts that say “Hollister” on them.

Here are Sophie's tips on Mastering the Art of Color Blocking!

This summer fashion is oozing color from bright yellows to cobalt to vivid greens. But what’s really turning heads this season is color blocking. Color blocking is a fun, bold way to mix colors. When done correctly color blocking is eye catching and fashion forward. It’s all about using the correct color combination.

Mixing Colors
The foundation to the perfect color blocked ensemble is the color combinations. For color blocking beginners stick with more basic (and fool proof) combinations such as:
·         yellow and purple
·        blue and yellow

If you’re feeling more daring try these color combinations:
·        cobalt and fuchsia
·         red and violet

Creating the Ensemble
You can create a color-blocked outfit in one of two ways.

1. Color block with a pant/skirt and top
TIP If you choose to color block with a pant/skirt and a top make sure you keep the rest of the accessories neutral so the focus is on the outfit.
2. Color block a dress and accessories.

TIP If this is your first attempt at color blocking I recommend starting with the dress and accessory combo as it is the simpler of the two and the easiest to master.

Keep your dark colors on the bottom and your light colors on top. This will help balance off the ensemble.

Feeling Apprehensive?
If you are weary of jumping into this color infused trend then stick to light colors: light blue shorts with a pastel yellow shirt. It’s a subtle way to color block.

Feeling Bold?
If you want to have a little more fun with color blocking, then add some pattern into it. Pair a striped yellow top with green floral skirt. Or wear a cobalt animal print dress with a fuchsia reptile bag. Mixing different prints and textures into your color block ensemble adds dimension and personality.

Once you master color blocking you will have a style that is both fashion forward and one of a kind!

Thanks Sophie!! Do YOU be colour block??

Great guest blogger post - I think we need to do a guest blogger post on each other's blogs. I have no idea how to do them though so you'll have to help me out!
All that colour blocking makes me want to ignore crummy Winter and just colour block away (or pack my bags and jet off into the Caribbean?)!
